A Weekend of Firsts

Was a big weekend for Sofian, as he got his first haircut. And, boy, was it needed. Here's some before shots of the boy who was seemingly raised by wolves (and not me and Parie):

And here's some video of the haircut (I wish I could have access to such a fun bleep-ful console when I got my hair cut):

And here are some after shots:

Sofian also had his first Timeouts this weekend, numbering three in total I believe. He's picked up a bad habit where he like to bite his mother. He doesn't bite anyone else. At first it was a bit like a love bite with just him mouthing one of Parie's appendages, but then it escalated to full-blown painful bites. Thus, the introduction of the Timeout. And it seems to have had an effect. On Sunday, after having two Timeouts on Saturday, he was threatened with the possibility of a Timeout, and he backed off. At least momentarily. Eventually, he did come in for the bite a little while later. I guess Mama is just tantalizingly succulent.

And finally, the big first I've been waiting for: Sofian called me Papa. He's been using Mama for some time. But after prompting from his grandmother Mamalama, asking who that odd goateed man was (which was indeed me, and not a stranger), he uttered Papa not just once but twice. And he used it again the next day. That's all the Father's Day present I'll need this year.

Helping Aunti Keri

Aunti Keri fears all things IKEA. Not just the shopping at the huge snake-like warehouse, but also putting the flat-pack furniture together. So a couple weeks ago, Sofian and I went down south with Keri to procure some new things for her new pad, and then I helped put some of her purchased furniture together. Unfortunately, there was a hitch with one piece, which necessitated SoSo and I heading back down to IKEA for an exchange this week. But all was well in the end, and I was able to get everything together thanks to my new assistant.

Weekend Document Dump

Yes, it's been awhile. Yes, I've heard the complaints. Yes, I'll try to do better.

Man, we have been busy of late. I've had loads of work that has been taking up my time (which is good) and Parie has been very busy doing the last bits of design work for the addition, meeting with contractors, meeting with structural engineers, looking at window and fireplace options, etc., etc. And she takes care of the boy most of the week. So she's really the busiest person around here, and I try to help give her some time on her own whenever I can. This morning, the boy and I went on some Saturday morning errands and stopped at both a new park and Barnes & Noble to play with the wooden train set (see posts below).

Last weekend we went to a baby shower for our friends Tobin and Becca over at Tina & Ryan's house. Parie was watching Sofian as he went up a staircase and they had both reached the top when the boy went tumbling down (luckily, they were carpeted). There was some loud crying, though that didn't last long, and he came away with some scrapes and bruises worthy of a police mug shot:

This last week, Parie and Sofian planted some herbs in some half-barrels that I moved from the backyard to the front (to get out of the way of the upcoming addition):

The boy's also doing well at crab crawling...

...and feeding himself.

We also recently discovered a park down by Alki Beach that's got a fun play structure that he climbs up (and then we slide down a slide together) as well as a sand pit.

And finally, I'll leave you with a pic of Mama and Sofian doing some reading:
