SAHDs Don't Have to Be Sad

Just picked up this hilarious bit from The Colbert Report via Daddy Types (one of many new Dads-related blogs that I've been visiting lately):

Back in college, I dreamed of being a house husband, or SAHD (stay-at-home-dad) as it's now monickered. Our plan is to share care time of the little guy, with Parie working a half-time schedule and me ramping down some of my current freelance work and attempting to bucket that into 2 full-time days and some floating time (still trying to figger this out).

I'm very excited to be very active in my role as a Dad, but it's also a little nerve-wracking to try to imagine what things will be like. But I was comforted by reading Crawling last fall, a memoir by Elisha Cooper (a children's book author; I'm looking forward to introducing Lil' F to his book Magic Thinks Big) about caring for his first child that I lucked into at the library. It's insightful, funny, sometimes profane, and very touching. And it helped me to realize that even though it's gonna be a struggle at times, I can do this without losing what it is that I am or what Parie and I are together. In fact, it will only wonderfully enhance our lives.
